Doctors resume drive for service structure
LAHORE, July 26: The Young Doctors Association, Punjab, launched on Thursday agitation at state-run hospitals to put pressure on the government for the provision of service structure.
The young doctors suspended work for an hour, staged small rallies at the teaching hospitals of the provincial capital and raised slogans against the government for delaying the proposed service structure.
The YDA kicked off agitation at a time when the Lahore High Court is hearing cases regarding the service structure for the doctors and against YDA for denying treatment to the patients. The YDA representatives had submitted in the LHC proposals and
recommendations about the revised service structure a few days back.
Addressing a protest rally at Lahore General Hospital, YDA President Dr Hamid Butt criticised the government and civil society for not rendering support to the demand of young doctors.
He even did not spare his senior colleagues, saying: “The senior doctors hardly visit state-run institutions and accumulate wealth by running their private clinics.”
He said the young doctors needed service structure and they would not withdraw this demand at any cost.
Dr Hamid announced next rally at de`Montmorency College of Dentistry.
