FIA official prefers exit to junior boss
July 27, 2012 by From the NewspaperLAHORE, July 26: The Federal Investigation Agency Additional Director General, Chaudhry Tanvir, who is heading the interior ministry’s special team to investigate the UK visa scam, does not want to continue (on the existing post) as the government has appointed his junior Anwar Virk as Director General.
Mr Tanvir, who belongs to the 6th Common of Police Service of Pakistan, earlier had served in FIA as Lahore director. Mr Virk is from the 9th Common. As Mr Tanvir seems to have no other option he has decided to quit the post.
“Yes it is not possible for me to continue to work as additional director general under my junior. I am from 6th and Mr Virk is from 9th Common therefore I have applied for a three-month leave for an honourable exit,” Chaudhry Tanvir told Dawn.
Since the FIA has been under the firing line of the apex court mostly for not complying with its orders in letter and spirit, the senior lot of the PSP is reluctant to have the top slot.
The PPP-led coalition has changed eight director generals during the last four years or so. Most of them had to face the ire of the Supreme Court in different cases. They were in a `Catch-22 situation’ – follow the apex court’s orders or the PPP.
They include Tariq Pervez, Tariq Khosa, Zafarullah Khan, Muhamad Wasim Ahmed, Malik Iqbal, Tahsin Anwar Shah, Javed Iqbal, Zafar Iqbal Luk and Fayyaz Leghari.
As Mr Tanvir’s leave will be with effect from coming Monday his team may complete the probe into the UK visa scam that has engulfed the country for the last few days.—Zulqernain Tahir
