PESHAWAR, July 26: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has directed the quarters concerned to expedite the process for selection of competent persons through laid down procedure as vice chancellors of the six public sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He took exception to the continued acting charge based appointments against the posts of vice chancellor of six universities of the province.

In a statement on Thursday, the governor particularly referred to the appointment of permanent vice chancellors of Malakand University, University of Peshawar and the Bacha Khan University, Charsadda and remarked that permanent selection needed to be done within the shortest possible time. He said the Institute of Management Sciences was facing the similar situation.

Mr Kausar pointed out that the vacant posts of the VCs needed to be filled through the process of advertisement and selection on merit in the best interest of students.   He also mentioned the promulgation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act, 2012 wherein absolute responsibility for management of premium higher educational institutions rests with the provincial government. He said ad hoc arrangements of prestigious educational institutions were not in the best interest of the respective institutions.
