MITHI, July 27: The mysterious disease afflicting peacocks is reported to have killed another 12 birds over last few days.
Villagers said that two peacocks each had perished in Gurrabah, Qazi Khan Mohammad Lashari and Misri Babar villages and three each in Haji Halo and Banbhanko villages.
Villagers fear that more birds may die by a viral disease Rani Khet, if measures were not taken immediately to deal with it.
Sindh’s Wildlife Minister Dayaram Esrani told journalists at the Circuit House said here that laws were being revised and a new law for conservation and protection of rare birds and animals would soon be enacted.
According to the minister, only nine birds have died and another 12 are suffering from the disease. A camp has been set up in Mithi under the supervision of a deputy conservator and a doctor will be there to treat ailing peacocks.
