Free, fair, transparent elections to strengthen democracy: Ashraf
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Saturday said that the government would ensure holding of free, fair and transparent elections in the country, which was the only way to strengthen democracy.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its allies will again emerge victorious in the next general elections with the support of masses, he said while addressing the notables from Gujjar Khan at an Iftar dinner at the Prime Minister House.
The prime minister said all the state institutions were vital and the PPP gave them due respect.
Ashraf thanked the party leadership and allied parties for nominating him for the slot of premiership and assured that the PPP would continue to take along its allies.
The premier said that it was the beauty of democracy that a worker like him had been made the prime minister. The PPP workers always confronted the dictators and stood by the party through thick and thin, he added.
He said that the government was considering to establish an IT University in Gujjar Khan and would soon take a practical step to realise this objective.
