Man killed on road

TAXILA, July 27: A man was knocked to death by a speedy bus on Grand Trunk Road in limits of Hassanabdal police station on Friday.

Police sources said that a man in his 20s, whose identity was yet to be established, was crossing the road when a Rawalpindi bound passenger bus (JB-185) driven by unknown driver hit him killing him at the spot.

The body was shifted to THQ hospital Hassanabdal for autopsy. Hassanabdal police registered a case against the driver of the bus and started investigation. — Correspondent

Gas explosion

RAWALPINDI, July 27: A double-storey house got damaged in a gas explosion in Muslim Town. However, nobody was reported to have been hurt or injured in the incident that created panic in the surrounding areas late on Friday evening.

Earlier it was presumed that the explosion was caused by some terrorists but later the Bomb Disposal (BD) experts’ report declared it was a gas explosion.

Police who went on high alert after the blast at about 8.10pm said nobody got injured in it. However, three rooms and a kitchen located at the 2nd floor of the building were burnt to ashes while window pans of the 1st storey crashed down.

The BD experts found no traces of explosive material from the site. Tahir Abbas Kazmi, station house officer Sadiqabad when contacted said, “Bomb disposal experts were alerted to the blast and called at the scene to ascertain whether there was any element of terrorism act in the explosion. But after examining the site and leftover pieces of building material, they found no impact of explosive and declared it a gas explosion.”

The explosion was suspected to have occurred after somebody showed a matchstick to a gas stove when the kitchen was filled with gas due to leakage. — Staff Reporter

Two cars stolen

ATTOCK, July 27: Two cars were stolen by some unknown car lifters from different areas of the district.

Police sources said here on Friday that a local resident Mohammad Sajid lodged a complaint with Attock Khurd police station that he had parked his car at a picnic point near Indus River. But, he further said, when he returned after some time it went missing. In a similar incident some unknown outlaws lifted the car of Dr Murad Ali from Haroon village of Hazro police station.

Separate vehicles theft cases were registered against the unidentified car lifters by the respective police stations. — Correspondent

Man held over death of wife

TAXILA, July 27: The Hassanabdal police arrested a man after his wife died under mysterious circumstances in a village here on Friday.

Police and hospital sources said that Musarrat Bibi, a mother of six children was brought to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital with a compliant of severe vomiting and later died.

In the meantime, Shazia Bibi, the sister and Anwar Bibi, the mother of the deceased reached the hospital and alleged that her husband I.K. had given her poison as they blamed that relationship between the couple had been in stress for long. On their complaint, Hassanabdal police took the husband into custody and sent samples from her body for clinical examination to Lahore after autopsy. — Correspondent

Sasta bazaar

MUZAFFARABAD, July 27: The civic body on Friday opened first “sasta (cheap) bazaar” in the city.

The bazaar was opened on the site of under-construction building of Municipal Corporation Muzaffarabad (MCM) in the heart of main old city with stalls of veggies, fruits and other commodities set up in an orderly manner, providing the shoppers a peaceful environment to make purchases.

Tomatoes were being sold initially at Rs 20 and later at Rs16 per kg in the bazaar as against Rs35 elsewhere in the city. Similarly, Chonsa mango was at Rs50 per kg as against Rs75, grapes at Rs150 per kg as against Rs180, bananas at Rs160 per dozen as against Rs180 in the open market. — Staff Correspondent

House looted

ISLAMABAD, July 27: A house in Islamabad was looted on Friday afternoon by armed robbers.

Police said four robbers raided a house in Sector I-8/4 and made the inmates hostage. They looted Rs45,000 cash, gold ornaments weighing 10 tolas, nine mobile phones along with other valuables and escaped from the scene.

Later the police were informed who reached the spot and collected evidence. Police made sketches of the culprits with the help of the affected family to trace them. — Staff Reporter
