KARACHI, July 27: Two armed men shot dead a suspected mugger near the Razzaqabad police training college on the National Highway on Friday, police said.

Shah Latif Town SHO Malik Saleem said that a man tried to snatch cash and valuables from two passers-by on the National Highway. The two men were armed and opened fire on the suspected mugger, he added.

He said that a pistol was also found from the possession of the man, who was not identified till late at night.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. Later, the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

Body found The body of an unidentified man was found within the remit of the Pak Colony police station on Friday morning.

Police said that the body was found along the Lyari river. Clad in a black shalwar-kameez, the victim had been shot in the head, they added.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Later, it was taken to the Edhi morgue for the purpose of identification.

Man gunned down A man was shot dead in a North Karachi locality on Friday, police said.

They said that Shaikh Kamran, 28, was waiting for someone near Sakina Masjid in North Karachi’s Sector 5-C when two men on a motorcycle emerged there, fired shots at him after a brief chat and rode away.

He sustained three bullet wounds and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died.

The Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police said that a press card of some local publication was found in his possession, but the card turned out to be fake.

They said that the victim had a criminal history and it appeared that he was killed over some personal issue.

He was arrested several times for possessing illicit weapons as well as for his alleged involvement in robbery and fraud cases.

He was a resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal and father of four.

Transvestite killed A transvestite was found murdered in a house in the Qayyumabad area on Friday.

Police said that they were informed by area people that a stench emanated from a house. The police entered the house and found the body of Samuel, 25.

They said that the victim had apparently been strangled. A piece of cloth had been stuffed into his mouth, they said.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

‘Police informer’ killed in crossfire A police informer, who accompanied a raiding police team, was killed in a North Nazimabad area early on Friday morning, police said.

Gulberg division SP Tanveer Odho said that a team of the Special Investigation Unit had raided a place in Khundu Goth in North Nazimabad Block-B. However, seeing the police criminals started firing at the police and Mohammad Javed, who was with the police team, suffered a fatal bullet wound, he added.

He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment, the police said.

Two suspects killed in ‘encounter’ Two suspected bandits were gunned down in what police described as an encounter in the Quaidabad area in the early hours of Friday.

Police said that three men snatched cash from a trader near a wedding hall. However, a police patrol reached the scene and the fleeing robbers fired at the police.

The police also returned fire and the bullets hit two suspects. Their third accomplice managed to escape on a motorcycle, they added.

One of the bandits was identified as Mohammad Zahid while his other accomplice could not be identified. Two pistols, Rs15,000 and a cellphone were recovered from their possession.

The police said that the bandits had deprived Mohammad Rahsid, a contractor, of Rs15,000 and his cellphone.

The bodies were shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.
