MQM raises extortion issue with CM
KARACHI, July 28: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has raised the issue of lawlessness and activities of the ‘criminals and extortion mafia’ in Karachi at a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
According to an MQM press release issued on Saturday, a five-member delegation of the MQM, led by Dr Farooq Sattar, met the CM at the Chief Minister’s House late on Friday night and conveyed to him its concerns about the worsening law and order situation in Sindh, particularly in Karachi.
Dr Sattar told the CM about the apprehensions prevailing in the business community in Karachi and said traders and businessmen were contemplating to close down their businesses for their personal safety.
He said traders were protesting after frequent grenade attacks, including the one on a department store, and demanding stern action against criminal elements belonging to gang warfare.
The CM assured the MQM delegation that stern action would be taken against extortionists and every possible step would be taken to protect the citizens’ life and property.
MQM leaders Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Kunwar Naveed Jameel, Wasay Jalil and Syed Sardar Ahmed were also present.
