QUETTA: Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim on Wednesday said that corrections could be made to the voter lists until the announcement of dates of the upcoming general elections, DawnNews reported.

Earlier on Tuesday, the ECP published the computerised electoral rolls containing 84.36 million eligible voters, 3.33 million more than 81.03 million in the rolls used in 2008 elections.

Speaking to media representatives in Quetta after surveying the election office there, Ebrahim reiterated that no one should doubt that the ECP would conduct a free, fair and transparent election, adding that, accurate electoral rolls were quintessential for that purpose.

During his visit to the Quetta election office, the chief election commissioner also familiarised himself with the procedure of preparing electoral rolls.

Ebrahim said that the election commission had done a commendable job over the preparation of voter lists but for improvement, the country's civil society, mainstream media and most of all the political parties should cooperate with it.

The ECP's member from Balochistan Justice (retd) Fazlur Rehman and provincial election commissioner Abdul Jabbar Jamali were also present on the occasion.
