GILGIT, Aug 2: Mohammad Baqir, a famous mountaineer of Gilgit-Baltistan, lost his life while scaling Broad Peak (8,051 metres) in Skardu region the other day, administration officials confirmed here on Thursday.

They said that Mr Baqir, 35, fell into a crevasse while scaling Broad Peak and disappeared, and according to a rule of expedition he was declared dead.

The officials said that Mr Baqir belonged to Sadpara village of Skardu and was in good health. Famous mountaineer Hasan Sadpara also belonged to the same village.

Two other mountaineers of this village had earlier been killed during Broad Peak expedition. Broad Peak is also known as K3 with a height of 8,051 metres.
