NOWSHERA, Aug 3: Three people, including former nazim of union council Chowki Mamraiz, were killed and as many others sustained injuries in two different incidents here on Friday.

According to police, two people riding a motorcycle opened fire on Mohammad Iqbal Khan, ex-nazim and local leader of Pakistan People’s Party, in front of his office at Concrete Factory, Pabbi, killing him on the spot.

They said that one of the attackers identified as Hazrat Noor was killed in retaliatory fire, while the other one, Sher Mohammad, escaped. They said that Mr Noor was wanted to police in some cases.

A villager, Gul Mohammad, said that both parties had an old enmity. Pabbi police have registered the case. In another incident, one woman was killed and two others were injured over refusal of a marriage proposal for a girl here in village Marajae on Friday.

Police said that Robina (20) was killed while her other sister and their mother were injured when Hameedullah, Nehab Ali, Roz Ali, Ayaz and Toru Khan allegedly opened fire on them in their house in village Marajae, Nowshera Kalan. A child playing in the street was also injured in the firing.

The injured were taken to district headquarters hospital, from where they were referred to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. Nowshera Kalan police have registered the case.—Correspondent
