RAWALPINDI, Aug 3: Two persons from rival groups were shot dead at Ghareebabad (Chaklala) on Friday night.

Preliminary police report suggested the Raja Kaleem and Sardar Rashid had a brawl over some petty issue which was later resolved.

However, sometimes before Iftar

, Raja Kaleem along with his friends came to Raja Safdar’s house and attacked Sardar Rashid killing him on the spot.

In retaliation, Raja Kaleem was also shot and injured by his rivals.

Critically injured Raja Kaleem was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Panic gripped the area as supporters of the two groups gathered at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital in large number.

Later the bodies were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem.

Initial postmortem report on Raja Kaleem suggested that he was shot at the hipbone which claimed his life.

Sardar Sajid, the brother of Sardar Rashid, when contacted, told Dawn that it all started on Thursday when his nephew was illuminating the mosque at Isha prayer.

Khurshid stopped him from illuminating the mosque which led to a brawl between them.

However, the issue was settled at that time.

He said his nephew Safdar was standing outside his house when he was allegedly attacked by Khurshid.

On seeing him attacking his nephew, Sardar Rashid intervened and tried to rescue him but it turned into a deadly clash as a large number of supporters from the two groups gathered there.

While they were quarrelling, Sardar Rashid was shot dead while Raja Kaleem was injured, later dying in the hospital.
