KARACHI, Aug 4: A sessions court confirmed on Saturday the interim pre-arrest bail of two brothers in the artefacts smuggling case.

On July 10, the court had granted interim bail to Atif Butt and Asif Butt against a surety bond of Rs50,000 each.

A sessions court (east) confirmed their interim bail pleas after hearing arguments from both sides.

The police had arrested driver Zafar and cleaner Asif Majeed and recovered a large number of Gandhara civilisation artefacts during the search of a trailer-mounted container in Korangi on July 6 and also found more artefacts in a warehouse in Korangi on a lead given by the detained suspects. After a few days the police also arrested third suspect Tahir Butt.

Later, he was released on bail.

They were booked under the Antiquities Act at the Awami Colony police station.

Complaint against ‘rowdy’ lawyer

A lawyer allegedly misbehaved with court staff and did not maintain the decorum of a courtroom following the dismissal of the bail application of his client on Saturday.

Accused Ihtisham, through his counsel, moved a bail application in a case registered under Section 489-F (dishonestly issuing a cheque for repayment of loan etc) of the Pakistan Penal Code. However, Additional District and Sessions Judge (south) Abdul Razzaq dismissed the plea after hearing both sides.

Court officials and witnesses said that as soon as the court pronounced its order Advocate Imtiaz Ali kicked a chair in the courtroom and reportedly misbehaved with the staff when he was asked to restrain himself.

The judge sent a complaint against the lawyer to the district and sessions court (south).
