Cattle market auctioned

RAWALPINDI, Aug 4: The Potohar Town Municipal Administration (PTMA) on Saturday earned money worth Rs38 million in an auctioning contract of cattle market, at Chani Sher Alam Khan.

The auction was held at District Council Hall under the chairmanship of Additional District Collector (Revenue), Talat Mehmood Gondal. The PTMA officials Mumtaz Malik and others were also present on the occasion.

More than five parties threw their hats into the arena but contractor Naveed Ahmed Khan managed to get the contract, while giving the highest bid of Rs38 million. The PTMA fixed Rs30 million as initial auction price.

According to PTMA spokesman, the auction of cattle market held to provide a permanent place to the people for the sale and purchase of animals as PTMA would not allow establishing cattle pens in its administrative control.

He said that the successful bidder was authorised to collect Rs5 per animal entry fee from the animal traders. “The buyers will have to pay five per cent tax to the government on the purchase of animals like goat or cow,” he said. — A Reporter

PPP warned

TAXILA, Aug 4: Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Ch. Nisar Ali Khan has warned of bringing the people to streets if the PPP-led ruling alliance tries to extend their rule for one year.

He was addressing party workers here on Friday evening.

He said the ruling alliance, unconcerned by the problems of the people, had badly failed to deliver and instead filled their pockets. He said that that people would wipe out the PPP through power of their votes which, he believed, would be a surprise for the PPP and its coalition partners.

He said while people were protesting against loadshedding, President Asif Ali Zardari was making tall claims of sweeping elections in Punjab. He asked the PPP Co-chairperson to listen the prayers of the people who are praying for early removal of the sitting government.

The leader of the opposition said it is a great tragedy that the president of the country was ignorant of the ground realities of the country. He also came hard on PTI Chief Imran Khan and said that he challenged Imran Khan that he never paid a penny as tax since 1971 to 1991.

He added that Imran never criticised the government, MQM, ANP and Q- League. Nisar also challenged Khan to prove his allegations against PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif in a court of law within a couple of days, failing which, he said, he will make public something very serious against him. —Correspondent
