LANDI KOTAL, Aug 7: A Nato container was partially damaged in a blast in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency on Tuesday.

Officials said that unidentified militants planted an explosive device along Jamrud bypass road to target the Nato convoy. The device was detonated through a remote control when the containers were passing through the area, they added.

They said that a vehicle bearing registration number Peshawar R-9654 was partially damaged in the blast. The driver and his assistant remained unhurt. Security forces arrested two suspected militants during a raid on a house in Jamrud after the attack. The arrested men were taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

The attack was second of its kind during the last two days in Jamrud. On Monday, a driver was killed when gunmen attacked a Nato convoy.

In Bara, security forces seized huge quantity of arms and ammunition during a raid on a warehouse near the local grid station. The members of local peace committee also assisted security forces in the search operation.

Meanwhile, Khyber Agency political administration appointed Nawab Shah Afridi as line officer of Khasadar Force in Jamrud. The former line officer, Amjad Afridi, was removed by the administration after he told local journalists that only Khasadar Force was providing security to Nato vehicles passing through Khyber Pass.

The administration served a show cause notice on Amjad Afridi, asking him to explain why he spoke to media on “policy matters”.—Correspondent
