LAHORE, Aug 7: An alleged robber in his 20’s was killed in a shootout with the police minutes after he drove away with a motorcycle at gunpoint at Gulberg early on Tuesday.

The Gulberg police claimed that two robbers snatched a motorcycle from Arshad of Dars Road, Shalimar Park and fled. A police picket set up close to Home Economics College signalled the two motorcyclists to stop but they accelerated. The policemen began chase of the suspects who opened fire to which the police retaliated, killing one of them. The other managed to flee.

The Ghalib Market police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case.

Model Town SP (Operations) Awais Malik said the deceased, not yet identified, was driving the motorcycle. He said efforts were being made to identify him.
