ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: A scientist working at a classified project of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, was booked by Sabzi Mandi police after a ministry official accused him of injuring him, police said on Tuesday.

The scientist after registration of the criminal case against him lodged a complaint with concerned security offices of the commission, as he had to inform the office about his movements. Besides, he also approached the IGP with a request to probe the issue, claiming it to be a false accusation.

In response, the IGP ordered an inquiry, to be conducted by sub-divisional police officer ASP Yasir Afridi.

A police officer told Dawn that Zahid Ali, working in a ministry, came over to Sabzi Mandi police station on July 27, with a complaint against S.M. with whom he shared a house at I-10/1. The complainant lives on the first floor of the house, while the accused on the ground floor. He claimed that S.M. and five other persons had beaten and injured him over the issue of water.

In response, the police called S.M. to the police station and the issue was settled temporarily.

However, the neighbours of the accused and the complainant also came over to the police station, and showed ignorance over any physical scuffle between them, the officer said.

A few days later the complainant brought a medico legal certificate which suggested that his two-fingers were broken, the officer said, adding that he claimed that his fingers were broken during the scuffle with the scientist.

However, the police registered a case in fear that the complainant may approach the court to seek direction for police in this regard, he added.

The investigation officer (IO) of the case told Dawn that both were engaged in a scuffle over water, adding that during the scuffle, S.M. allegedly broke the fingers of the complainant.— Staff Reporter
