LAHORE, Aug 7: Two officials of the Lahore Electric Supply Company were shot at and injured by a consumer allegedly involved in power theft near Harbanspura level crossing in Cantonment on Tuesday. The injured were admitted to the Services Hospital.

Quoting victims, the North Cantonment police said line superintendent Mumtaz and intelligence inspector Aslam of Zarar Shaheed Road sub-division went to Siddique service station and asked for checking meter. Yaqoob initially resisted and then opened fire on them.

Yaqoob’s family told the police that the officials started blackmailing him and demanded bribe. They claimed officials were already conniving with Yaqoob in power theft for long. The family claimed Yaqoob got infuriated only after the officials demanded more money during their visit, brought his weapon and fired in the legs of both officials. — Staff Reporter
