LAHORE, Aug 8: The Pakistan Railways will be operating two special trains on Eidul Fitr.

The trains would be operated from Karachi for Peshawar and Rawalpindi while additional coaches would also be attached with all express, mail and passenger trains to cater to the rush, said a spokesperson on Wednesday.

On Aug 16, the first special train would leave Karachi at 11am for Peshawar, while on Aug 17 the second one would leave Karachi at 11am to reach Rawalpindi through Faisalabad and Wazirabad.

Some 3.5 million people travel by special and regular trains to celebrate Eidul Fitr and Eidul Azha in their hometowns every FINED: As many as 798 passengers were found travelling without tickets in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi and Sukkur divisions of the Railways during the last week.

According to a railways police spokesman, on the directives of Inspector General Syed Ibne Husain, five special teams recovered Rs383,000 from ticketless travellers on the spot and deposited the amount with the cash office.

The spokesman said a fine of Rs113,415 was realised from 161 ticketless passengers in Karachi, Rs91,151 from 292 in Lahore division, Rs98,700 from 147 in Multan division, Rs67,530 from151 in Rawalpindi and Rs12,280 from 47 in Sukkur division.

The teams conducted surprise raids on all passenger, inter-city, mail and express trains in coordination with senior ticket examiners and conductor guards, said the spokesman. — Staff Reporter
