LAHORE: Two hundred and thirty Hindu pilgrims, who were earlier stopped from crossing the Wagah Border, were allowed on Friday to go to India to attend a religious event, DawnNews reported.

The pilgrims were reported to be travelling to India to attend the birth ceremonies of the Hindu God ‘Krishna’.

Earlier, the pilgrims belonging to the minority community were stopped by the immigration authorities at the Wagah border for not having No Objection Certificates (NoC).

Some of the pilgrims were stopped after the interior ministry took notice of reports by some media outlets that there was a case of possible migration of various Hindu families from the country fearing persecution and danger to their life and property.

After last night’s Interior Ministry orders, the Hindu families were kept waiting on the platform. They were perplexed over not being allowed to cross the border despite having visas with them.

Some of the pilgrims called it an illegal act by the government.

On Thursday, Interior Minister Rehman Malik had said visas had been issued to 250 Hindu families under a conspiracy without checking facts.

The interior minister had said that the government would probe the matter and after being satisfied, the families would be allowed to go to India.
