MQM, PPP men shot dead in city
KARACHI, Aug 10: Two political activists were gunned down in as many attacks in the city, police said on Friday.
They said that an activist of the Pakistan People’s Party was shot dead and his associate was wounded in New Karachi on Friday.
The police said that the incident took place in New Karachi’s Sector 11-G within the remit of the Bilal Colony police station.
They said that Anwer, 38, and Umair, 30, were sitting outside a restaurant when two men on a motorbike emerged there, one of them fired at the victims and rode away.
They were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Anwer died during treatment.
Gulberg division SP Tanveer Odho said that Anwer was an activist of the PPP and a resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
A large number of PPP workers reached the hospital after learning about the incident.
In Baldia Town, an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead and three others were wounded late on Thursday night.
Police said that armed men riding a motorcycle targeted Fazal Ahmed Patni near Chandni Chowk in Sector 5-G of Baldia Town.
They fired indiscriminately, killing Mr Patni and wounding three others, and rode away, the police said.
The police said that Mr Patni suffered fatal bullet wounds and died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The police said that he was a unit in-charge in the MQM’s organisational structure. Those wounded in the attack were not MQM workers and were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.
Hearing the news, a large number of MQM workers reached the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Tension gripped parts of Baldia Town where incidents of intermittent firing were also reported.
