ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: Army top brass met on Friday amid reports of Pakistan and the United States moving towards enhanced counter-terrorism cooperation following improvement in their relations. The meeting of corps commanders started late in the evening and was expected to continue late into the night.
As is the usual practice there was complete silence about the agenda of the conference. The standard statement from military’s public affairs wing, ISPR, said: “The monthly conference would discuss routine professional matters.”
However, events preceding the Friday session suggested that the agenda had something extraordinary. It was unusual for Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee to have met President Asif Ali Zardari ahead of the commanders’ conference.
The meeting was held against the backdrop of improvements in relations and more importantly the maiden visit of ISI chief Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam to Washington for engagements at CIA that have been described by both sides as ‘productive’.
Gen Islam was to brief the commanders on his discussions at Langley.
At his weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Khan said that subsequent to the visit of the ISI chief both sides were working on a number of proposals.

WOW…No Appology…everything is fine….may be …plotting for more plots?
"As is the usual practice there was complete silence about the agenda of the conference." OK: name one single country in the world in which the conference agenda of its army's leaders is made public.
Armed forces role is there in every country, accept it or not, we are habitual of just criticising every one for the hick of it, they are doing their job let them do it nicely and to the satisfaction of their ZAMEER.
As the charity begins at home, to discipline the nation would also start from home. How about reforming ourseves, family, mohallah, town and the nation.
Please stop just finding faults with others and self be spoiled kids.
One should remember that the army would never come in to power if the politicians were of even the basic calibre-most politicians are mochis. barbers, villagers, fuedal oppressive warlords and cronies and when they produce results as expected the country is jeapordised and the armed forces move in. In the west the armed forces do not move in because the public respects their politicians who resign if at fault not like ours.
Rather than getting paranoid about this development, how about we take it for what it is? A routine meeting . There is a good probability that it has more to do with talks of operations in North Waziristan and its possible blowback on the state and how to deal with political instability provided PM is sidelined again because of the whole contempt of court issue.
They "excellent "way our politicians are running the country by boxing one another as if its Mohammad Ali-Joe Frazier battle of the century, the refree "Armed Forces " are bound to box all of them out of the arena , just matter of months. Therefore giving prominent coverage to military top brass meetings by Dawan is appreciable
When the civilian leadership will have people like M.A .Jinnah and the likes we will automatically have civil supremacy , if we continue to have the current quality politicians and corrupt bureaucrats, the khaki will reign supreme. Have a look at events in Turkey and you will get my point.
May Allah keep our armed forces intact and resolute
they are the last hope
All those people in Pakistan that believe that they should have strong armed foreces should remember that no armed forces in the world that are deeply involved in the politics and running of their country has ever own a war against their enemies!
The armed forces including the Chief is taking a salary from the national exchequer to keep the country healthy and safe, but is not doing their duty. I
Why a prestigious newspaper of the country should flash the photo of the Conference on the first page ? Why the nation be bothered if they are discussing 'routine professional matters' ? Why we don't treat them normally as any other government institutions ? Why their conferences make headlines while there are many other being held in the country by other institutions of importance ? Why should we give their meetings , etc. undue importance and create unnecessary sensalizations ? Whose agenda we serve through such news items ?
This news deserves prominence precisely because they are not discussing routine matters. Army continues to be the most powerful institution with proxies in media, militants and political parties. This makes its actions far more news worthy than the speeches of politicians.
They have to keep awake because our nation is sleeping and our enemies are awake.
Well, Does Pak Army has options? I believe strongly NO..But Pak Army is pretty strong capable to observe & bear shocks .
Pakistan's STRATEGIC location is one of the best for it's defences in the long run.
Pakistan have to have military co operation with it's western neighbour. In this Pakistan does not have a choices, but start crawling in this directions, it is the need of this time. Co operation is the KEY word to be alive in the present world, alone you are nothing & (zero). I understand it Saudi will not be pleased, because of it.
the best part….all top brass have bellies!!
Yeah because they are busy in Defence housing Authority and Other comercial activities then defending Pakistan or turn off Radars in night and sleep so that American helicopters can intrude into Kakul.
Right move pleas focus on defense factor
The best thing these types of meetings can serve is to rein into the illegal detentions,force-dis appearnces and extra-judicil killings of Pakistanis by some members of the key intelligence agency as many familes in Pakistan are feeling insecure and fearful for their love ones illegally taken/abbducted by the agency in the name of terror.
Top brass in late-night huddle—— the tile of this story reminds me of Pir Saheb Pagara Late, who use to say often FAUJI BOOTOOON KI AWAZ ARAHI HAY—————–when such top brass of the Pak Army had late night huddle.
But times have changed and now the CJ of the SC of Pakistan is also having some cards and power in his hands for the first time in the History of Pakistan to establish JUSTICE and stop the BOOTOOON KI AWAZ FROM MARCHING ON INTO THE POLITICAL FIELD or TURF OF THE NEW DEMOCRATIC PAKISTAN. LONG LIVE PAKISTAN — YOUME AZADI MUBARAK to all fellow PAKISTANISA— August 14, 2012

Please give proof before making allegations
Hammod ur Rehman commission report
I think the limping ,lame democracy is screwed again. What else, a green light from US, and SC toppling another PM in coming days. How many times have we seen the re-run of this horror movie!
