MANSEHRA, Aug 12: The district police officer has backed the demand of lawyers about conducting a judicial probe into the alleged gang rape of a teenage girl by law enforcers here earlier this month.

“The police officials, who are involved in the rape case, should be taken to task without any discrimination. I am also submitting an application with the local court to seek judicial probe into the incident,” DPO Sher Akbar told a press conference here on Sunday.

Mr Akbar, who had earlier constituted an investigation team headed by SSP Mohammad Ilyas to probe the alleged gang rape case, said that he would welcome judicial probe into the case. He said that police were party in the case.

The district bar association in its largely attended meeting on Saturday had passed a resolution, demanding of chief justice to take suo motu notice of the alleged incident and form a judicial commission to probe it.

The DPO said that family of the victim was also traced out.

A lady constable Jan Bibi, who is stated to be eyewitness of the case, had told journalists that the victim was kept at her home by police for one night as there was no lockup for women at the City police station.

She said that next day policemen took her back to the police station. The girl was bleeding when she came again, the policewoman said. She said that she informed the SHO concerned about it.

Ms Bibi said that she changed the bloodstained clothes of the girl and gave her a dress of her daughter-in-law to wear. She said that bloodstained clothes of the victim were still present at her home.

ACCIDENT: An eight-year-old boy was killed when a speedy pickup truck hit him in Charbagh area of Oghi tehsil on Sunday.

The victim identified as Mohammad Aziz was crossing road when the vehicle hit him, injuring him seriously. He was being taken to a hospital but he succumbed to his injuries before reaching there. The driver managed to escape after the incident.

Oghi police registered FIR against the driver and started investigation.

In another incident, the body of a missing teenage boy was found with the help of sniffer dogs in Balakot.

Azhar Hussain, 17, had gone missing when he was returning from a picnic spot in Kaghan valley on July 31. The sniffer dogs led his relatives to the body at Chaper Nullah.

Balakot police had already lodged the FIR after the victim went missing.
