KARACHI: Seven people lost their lives and five others were injured in Karachi in various incidents of violence during the past twenty four hours whereas police claimed arresting two extortionists, DawnNews reported.

An activist of the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) party was killed by unknown gunmen near Lasbela Bridge.

Enraged residents took to the streets in protests after the incident and shops and markets were shut in the locality.

Gun firing continued in the area which injured four more people.

One of the injured succumbed to his wounds during treatment in a private hospital.

The protests led to the closure of the road leading from Lasblea Bridge to Golimar.

Additional troops of rangers and police were deployed after the incident whereas, tension prevails in the area.

A milk-seller was shot dead by unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle in Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar area.

Some people present on the occasion gave chase and managed to capture one of the fleeing assailants, who was handed over to authoritites.

Shopkeepers led a protest outside the local police station and shouted slogans against the authorities.

The protestors alleged that the shopkeeper was killed in the presence of policemen.

The protestors demanded that the captured attacker be handed over to them.

Moreover gunshot incidents claimed a life each in Karachis’s Nursery, Jamali Goth in Sohrab Goth and Bhains colony areas.

Another political party activist was killed by gun firing in Peerabad sector 4/E of Karachi whereas two of the deceased’s brothers were also injured in the incident.

On the other hand Gulshan Iqbal police claimed the arrest of two suspected extortionists along with the recovery of illegal weapons after a operation in the area.
