RAWALPINDI: The feasibility of setting up a nuclear power plant in Pakistan is being examined at the Secretary level.

Disclosing this, the Minister for Natural Resources, Mr Z. A. Bhutto, said last evening before leaving for Karachi, that a beginning of the project may be made in the Second Five-Year Plan period, but the major part of it would be completed during the Third Five-Year Plan. He further said that it entirely depended on the availability and allocation of funds.—Agencies

Mortgage Bank to give loans

QUETTA: Pakistan’s first Mortgage Bank will start loan operations in Karachi from Sept 1 this year the West Pakistan Secretary for Cooperatives, Social Welfare and Labour, Mian Riazuddin Ahmed said yesterday. He said in an interview on arrival by Bolan Mail yesterday that the Mortgage Bank will grant loans up to Rs 10,000 for building small houses in Karachi.

Mian Riazuddin Ahmed said the Bank was making a start with a capital of Rs 15 lakhs. The West Pakistan Government was also considering to invest Rs 10 lakhs in the Bank. The Mortgage Bank was inaugurated early this year but it could not start loan operations due to lack of capital. He said the committee appointed by the Central Government last year to report on the liquidation of housing societies in Karachi, will submit its report in two months.—Staff Correspondent
