WASHINGTON: Pakistani-Americans are uniquely placed to help advance Pakistan-US relationship by fostering mutual understanding and strengthening trade and economic links, Islamabad's envoy in Washington said.

Ambassador Sherry Rehman told a group of leading members of Houston-based diaspora that Pakistan seeks expanded trade and not aid, going forward in its relationship with the United States.

“We have been successful in getting preferential trade access to the European Union despite a complex process ---- and now we are working towards the same goal with the United States ---- your input and advocacy role will be vital to that end,” the envoy noted in a video conference.

This Pakistani-Americans' role toward strengthening ties assumes greater significance this year as both Democratic and Republicans are engaged in campaigns to win over public support in the run up to November presidential election, the ambassador added.

The participants from Houston including political activists, entrepreneurs, investors, professionals, and community leaders, praised the ambassador's leadership in the outreach initiative.
