ISLAMABAD: Uncertainty hangs over the Indian prime minister’s proposed visit to Pakistan as New Delhi appears to be sceptical of any breakthrough because of the political instability here caused by the executive-judiciary tussle.
“Indians have doubts about the Zardari-Raja set-up’s preparedness to take important decisions and they have duly conveyed their feelings to Pakistan,” said a government official in the knowledge of government efforts aimed at persuading Dr Manmohan Singh to visit Islamabad.
Talking to Dawn, foreign office spokesperson Moazzam Ahmad Khan said Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna was due in Islamabad on Sept 8, but no decision had been taken as yet on Dr Singh’s trip.
However, if media reports are to be believed, Mr Krishna’s presence here will act as a prelude to his premier’s visit. And if all goes well, Dr Singh may turn up at the end of next month.
Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi, an analyst, said he wasn’t hopeful that Dr Singh would come to Islamabad in near future. “Yes, if the two countries agree to make some breakthrough on the issues of Siachen or Sir Creek, Dr Singh may agree to come here. He won’t come here merely for the sake of a photo opportunity,” Dr Rizvi said.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, however, is looking forward to one high-profile encounter before he leaves office early next
year. And nothing can match a one-to-one with his Indian counterpart.
After Mr Ashraf rose to the helm of affairs in June, media in both countries highlighted the fact that both prime ministers had their roots in the Potohar region. (Dr Singh hails from Gah, Chakwal district).
President Zardari had extended a formal invitation to Dr Singh on July 27.

This visit is a waste. Pakistanis will not change in another hundred years. They have so much hatred for anything which is not related to Islam.
Meeting the civilian leaders in Pakistan is a waste of time. Mr.Singh should meet the real power. Pak. Military leaders.
If Manmohan comes to pakistan that will be signal for people on both side for better relationship.If Germany and Britian can put their difference aside despite the fact that German Army killed one lac british soldiers in World War 2 why cant this happen in India and Pakistan.I am full supporter of solution of all issues by the political process.I want trade between india and pakistan.Please support this new era and support india and pakistan better relationship.

Pak is undergoing a long overdue recalibration of the power-sharing between the Judiciary, Executive, and Legislative branches (and the Army). On the other hand, the MMS Govt is hobbled by coalition politics, and is at the mercy of regional parties which can afford to take extreme positions vis-a-vis international politics. ONE ASPECT THAT IS WORKING IN INDIA'S FAVOR IS ITS SECULAR CONSTITUTION–FORTUNATELY,INDIA'S FOUNDING FATHERS HAD THE IDEALISM, VISION, OR PRAGMATISM–WHATEVER ONE CHOOSES TO CALL IT.

On the other hand I also request Indian prime minister to not visit Pakistan as many Indians don't like him and not that RAW will attack and kill him during his visit to Pakistan and Indians will put the blame on us. After all they only see terrorism in our side while Kashmir, Manipur, Ladakh etc are so peaceful. Thanks to our media which shows the true story at least we know that we have problems at our home.

attack on Minhas, 20 Shias shot dead, 5-6 peple on average dying everyday in Karachi, 10 people died in Quetta, trade agreements in limbo, what will manmohan singh come to Pakistan for? Nothing can be accomplished by the elected government. more important was the news of meeting of the RAW and ISI officials which might lead to some peace and some clarity in Afganistan.
