KARACHI, Aug 17: A young man was gunned down in what police described as a sectarian attack carried out in the Gulbahar area on Friday.

The police said armed motorcyclists targeted Abbas Haider, 20, in Firdous Colony.

The victim, an electrician, was shot in the head.

They added that the wounded victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital before being moved to a private health facility. However, he died during treatment.

A senior police officer told Dawn on the condition of anonymity that the victim was gunned down in a sectarian attack.

Tension gripped the Gulbahar area and Rizvia Society following the killing. Firing into the air resulted in closure of markets in the locality.

Mr Haider was shot dead before an improvised explosive device planted near the KESC sub-station on University Road targeted a bus carrying participants in a rally organised on the occasion of Al Quds Day.
