Compensation announced

ATTOCK, Aug 18:  Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt has announced Rs1 million for the family of Sepoy Mohammad Iqbal, who was injured in the operation against militants at Kamra airbase and later died in the hospital.

He accidentally fell off a truck, when security personnel were rushing to counter the miscreants.

Earlier, the Air Chief had also announced the same amount for the family of Sepoy Asif Ramzan, who lost his life while fighting the militants during their attack on PAF base Minhas Kamra on Thursday.—Correspondent

Rather safe than sorry

ISLAMABAD, Aug 18: There is no security threat in Naran and it is totally safe for tourists. Incident of Naran (Babusar) was a conspiracy to destroy tourist industry of Pakistan.

It was stated by President Kaghan Tourism Promotion Association, Mr Matiullah while talking to media persons at national press club on Saturday.

He said that his association condemns the incident of Babusar but people should understand that there is no security threat to tourists.

Some elements want to destroy the tourist industry of Pakistan, so they have tried to create an impression that Kaghan and Naran are not safe.

He said that during and after Eid holidays people should come to Naran and his association will provide all facilities to the tourists.

He also demanded from the government to take necessary action to save the tourist industry of Pakistan.—A Reporter

Distillery raided

TAXILA, Aug 18: Police on Saturday raided a distillery and seized huge quantity of locally made liquor.

Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a police party headed by Inspector Sardar Shakeel Ahmed raided the distillery located in Jameelabad and seized over 100 bottles of locally-made liquor besides three drums of newly manufactured liquor.

Police also succeed in nabbing two owners of the distillery. During preliminary interrogation, they confessed to supplying liquor to their customers on the eve of Eid.—Correspondent

TMA confiscates 500 tyres

RAWALPINDI, Aug 18: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) has confiscated 500 unwrapped tyres from different city markets in its campaign against dengue.

The tyres were confiscated from tyre shops as the city district government had strictly warned the shopkeepers that tyres, new and old, should be properly packed and covered in order to reduce the risk of the dengue spreading.

Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa has urged the tyre shops owners to cooperate with the TMA staff so that solid steps could be taken to control the spread of dengue in the city.

He also warned that the violators would be dealt strictly and their tyres would not only be confiscated but cases would also be registered against them.—APP

Robbers gang busted

RAWALPINDI, Aug 18: The Westridge police busting an inter-provincial criminal gang involved in robberies and kidnapping for ransom, arrested its three

members during special operation conducted in this connection.

Besides, the police recovered a person, kidnapped at gunpoint after a robbery, a pistol and Rs250,000 in cash.

Superintendent Police (SP) Potohar Town Haseeb Shah, addressing a press conference at Westridge police station here, said four members of the gang entered the house of Zubair Yousaf in Gulshan-e-Razaq, Chakra Road, Rawalpindi on July 21 at 2 am and looted gold ornaments, motorcycle and other valuables and kidnapped Zubair Yousaf's brother Usman. Later, they demanded Rs5 million ransom.—APP

Cleanliness campaign

RAWALPINDI, Aug 18: District Officer Solid Waste Management Dr Mazhar Azeem said on Saturday that cleanliness campaign is in progress on the auspicious occasion of Eidul Fitr.

Earlier, a meeting headed by District Officer Solid Waste Management reviewed the cleanliness of graveyards and Eidgah.

The District Officer directed to keep the city neat and clean and deploy necessary staff to perform their duties on Eid.

On the other hand, some localities of the city, including Waris Khan, Dhoke Khaba, Mokha Singh State, Umer Road, Dhoke Elahi Baksh, Nadeem Colony, Arya Mohallah and Javed Colony are giving dity look because of heaps of garbage.—APP
