DADU, Aug 19: Poor people in the district are not able to buy clothes and shoes for their family members because of price increase in recent weeks.

A survey conducted by this correspondent reveals that besides clothes and shoes, the prices of fish, meat, fruit and vegetables are also beyond the reach of the common man.

Nazir Ahmad Solangi, a physically challenged and jobless man, said he had Rs2,000 to buy shoes for three members of his family  but he found it inadequate.

Ghulam Ali Jatoi, a donkey cart owner and father of five, said his daily earning was Rs200 to 250 and he had purchased clothes for his children. He regretted that he could not buy any food item for Eid.

Mohammad Usman Mangi said that a dress was selling at Rs1,200 to Rs1,500 and he was not able to get any clothe for seven members of his family.

Chairman of the Market Committee of Dadu, Saifullah Panhwar, said price lists had been issued and steps were being taken to control prices of food items.

Fish seller Juman Mallah said that he was selling fish at Rs280 per kg purchased for Rs260.

Mukhtiarkar Naeem Ahmed Vistro said that if anyone lodged a complaint against high prices action would be taken against the trader concerned.

Our Umerkot correspondent adds: Thousands of Thari people will not be able to celebrate Eid because of a drought-like situation in the desert areas of Tharparkar and Umerkot.

The monsoon season is almost over but Thar desert has not received any rains. People of deserts, comprising a major part of Tharparkar district, two union councils and parts of seven union councils of Umerkot and two union councils of Khipro in Sanghar district, were anxiously awaiting rains.

Last year because of heavy rains farmers of Thar could not grow crops and fodder. This year only ten villages of the district and six Umerkot villages received some drizzles which were too little for farming.
