KARAK, Aug 19: Two people of a family, including a woman, were killed in the district over land dispute, while nine were injured in four separate incidents on Sunday.

According to police, a man and his female relative suffered serious injures after two groups traded fire over a land dispute in Khurram area. The woman, Gul Naz Begum, later died, while the other injured, Salman, was admitted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Banda Daud Shah in critical condition.

Also in the day, a truck bound for DI Khan knocked down a pedestrian on Indus Highway in Abadkhel area. The man, Haleem, a local resident, died on the spot.

In another incident, six people were seriously injured after their speeding car overturned on Karak-Palosa Road in Isak Chountra area while negotiating a sharp turn.

The injured, all residents of Daraki Banda area, were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Karak, where their condition was stated be critical.

Meanwhile, two people were injured after their motorcycle plunged into ravine in Sangani area.

The injured, Mohammad Saqib and Noor Islam, residents of Monaka Banda, were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Karak. They were later referred to Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital over serious condition.

Meanwhile, provincial prisons minister Mian Nisar Gul on Sunday directed the tehsil municipal officers of Karak and Banda Daud Shah to submit details of ongoing and completed development projects in their respective areas to him within fifteen days.The directions were issued after local residents complained to the minister of massive corruption in the projects.

People, who met the minister at his residence to greet him on Eidul Fitr, also complained of poor quality of work on projects.

The minister said he wouldn’t let anyone get away with public money and would ensure by all means that the funds allocated for projects were used fairly and transparently.

He said the agencies carrying out development projects in the district would have to build their capacity to do the given tasks within the stipulated time and in line with the accepted quality standards.

Mr Gul said he had already asked the Karak and Banda Daud Shah TMOs in writing that he would get the quality of work and money spent on it checked by a third agency to ensure transparency.

He told visitors that if any official was found involved in corruption, he would be dealt with strictly.

The minister said the government would ensure that funds were used for the purpose they were allocated for.

“All officials will be held accountable for their actions,” he said.
