OKARA, Aug 22: A barber ended up in hospital with life-threatening scars when some relatives of a woman with whom he had allegedly developed illicit relations brutally attacked him at Bahripur village near Deepalpur.

Muhammad Yousuf, a resident of Bahripur village, had developed illicit relations with a woman, a mother of six. To exact revenge, the woman’s relatives Ali Sher and Nasim Bibi visited Yousuf and took him away from his home on the pretext of his help in some task.

Awaiting him were Mian Khan, Muhammad Javed, Muhammad Hussain and Shabbir Ahmad who first beat up Yousuf and then chopped off his nose and also inflicted injuries on his lips, eyes and tongue. The assailants left the barber gasping for life.

As the word went round about the brutality, Okara District Police Officer Usman Gondal reached the spot and inquired into the matter.

Yousuf’s family took him to Lahore’s Mayo Hospital where he was admitted with multiple injuries. His wife Shamim Bibi got a case registered under sections 324, 334, 336, 209, 148, 149 PPC and section 7ATA with the Deepalpur police.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took serious notice of the incident and summoned DCO Saif Anjum and DPO Usman Akram Gondal.

He visited the hospital and gave a Rs500,000 cheque to the injured and directed the DPO to immediately arrest the culprits.

The police arrested Javed, Ali Sher and Hussain. The DPO said others also would be arrested soon.

In another incident, a man was allegedly axed to death by his wife and younger brother at Mehr Shah Khagga village.

Umar Daraz had developed illicit relations with his sister-in-law. His wife and brother axed him to death and threw the body in the canal. The Haveli Lakha police recovered the body and registered a case.

SHOT DEAD: A man was allegedly shot dead over a petty dispute.

Muhammad Asghar of Amlekay Ather Shah village exchanged hot words with Maqbool, Allah Ditta and Abdul Hameed. Asghar was going to see his friend Arif on Tuesday night when the three people opened fire on him. Asghar died on the spot. The Mandi Ahmadabad police registered a case.

Three brothers were shot at and injured by their rivals -- Ashraf, Afzal and Aslam. They were hospitalised.

The B-Division police registered a case.
