KARACHI, Aug 23: At least four people were killed in separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Thursday. A woman was killed and a couple injured when a fast-moving minibus hit their motorcycle on Nawab Siddiq Ali Khan Road in Nazimabad near the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, police said.
They said that 35-year-old Bilquis, wife of Iqbal, died on the spot while 27-year-old Naseem Bano and her 32-year-old husband Abdul Sattar were injured in the accident.
They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment, the police added.
They said that the driver of the minibus managed to escape. Bilquis, who was a mother of three children, was a sister-in-law of Abdul Sattar.
Shortly after the accident, another accident took place almost at the same spot in front of the Annu Bhai Park where a fast-moving water tanker hit a motorcycle on which two children were travelling.
A 12-year-old boy, Mehsum, died on the spot while his 14-year-old companion Saifuddin was seriously injured in the incident. They were taken the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
People present at the scene saw red and damaged the water tanker and also tried to set it on fire, but the police arrived and managed to save the water tanker from complete destruction.
Man dies in hit-and-run
A young man was killed and his father injured in a hit-and-run accident on Hub River Road on Thursday.
The incident took place within the remit of the Saeedabad police station where Khuda Khan and his son Asif Khan were crossing the main road near the shrine of Baba Vilayat Shah when a fast-moving vehicle knocked them down.
The young man died on the spot while his injured father was taken to hospital.
Motorcyclist killed
A young motorcyclist was killed after his two-wheeler skidded on the main University Road in front of the Baitul Mukarram mosque on Thursday, police said.
They said that 40-year-old Mohammad Aqeel was taken to a nearby hospital where he died during treatment. Later his body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Two drowned in sea
The bodies of two men drowned in the sea a couple of days earlier were washed ashore at the Cape Monze on Thursday.
Edhi sources said that the men had drowned in the sea on Tuesday at Neelum Point.
The victims identified as 30-year-old Shahrukh and 21-year-old Kashif were friends and residents of Baldia Town.
Earlier, at least four people drowned in the sea during the Eid holidays while picnicking at the city beach.
