Promoting drip irrigation system
AHMED Faraz Khan warns Pakistan about the ‘Looming danger of drought’ in his well-researched article (Aug 18). He talks about the current water levels in our dams, reduced water flow in all major rivers, less rain and fall of temperatures in northern areas.
Experts are also saying the same thing.
Water conservation is the need of the hour and drip irrigation is the best solution.
This technology has been adopted by progressive farmers in Pakistan and is in use for more than a decade now. The government gave subsidies to farmers till very recently and we saw increase in drip irrigation system application all across Pakistan.
Would we wait for the imminent drought which everyone is predicting and let our agriculture die and people suffer?
Or would we unite in the assemblies and draft laws encouraging use of drip irrigation, giving them subsidies and at the same time heavily tax farmers who use flood irrigation systems.

Building dams is the only solution. Stop dirty politics and make laws and enforce in the national interest.
Very good suggestion. But the present Assemblies are only meant for enacting laws to protect the corrupt and dishonest politicians. The have neither time nor acumen to enact laws for the welfare of the people of Pakistan and solidarity and wellbeing of Pakistan itself.
