RAWALPINDI: The three-day All-Pakistan Convention of the Salars (commanders) of the Khaksars, scheduled to be held here today, has been banned by an order of the District Magistrate, Rawalpindi, Mr Alauddin Ahmed. The order, issued under Section 144 Cr PC last evening, stated that any public meeting, procession or assembly of five persons or more than five anywhere in Rawalpindi district in connection with Khaksar convention had been banned.

The Khaksar convention was to be held at Liaquat Gardens where a number of tents had been fixed and the Khaksars, wearing khaki uniforms, were busy making arrangements. The order said that the Khaksar Convention was likely to disturb public peace and tranquillity in the district.

The Government of West Pakistan, it may be recalled, had warned through an official announcement a few days ago that wearing of uniforms and holding of parades was an offence under the provisions of the Public order (Political Uniforms) Ordinance 1958. —Agencies
