LAHORE, Aug 30: An anti-dengue day will be observed on Sept 2 throughout the province for complete elimination of dengue.

This was stated by Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique while presiding over a meeting held to review arrangements for the day at his office on Thursday.

He said seminars and walks would be held on this day all over the province. A special cleanliness campaign would be launched for eliminating breeding places of dengue in which officers and officials of all government departments, representatives of civil society and assembly members would participate.

The meeting was told that elected representatives, dengue volunteers, boy scouts, officials of civil defense, students and representatives of civil society would create awareness about dengue among the people by visiting door to door.

Dengue volunteers, workers of non-government organizations and other people would distribute on roads pamphlets and handbills carrying preventive measures from dengue.

The meeting was further informed that flex signboards and banners were being displayed for public awareness in cities regarding anti-dengue day.

The Information and Culture Department would arrange stage dramas and music shows with the cooperation of the Punjab Arts Council and the Lahore Arts Council on Sept 2 and the artistes of famous drama “Ainak Wala Jin” will present a special drama about dengue.

In addition, a publicity campaign about eradication of dengue has been launched through print and electronic media.

The meeting was attended by MNA Pervaiz Malik, MPAs Chaudhry Shahbaz, Hafiz Mian Nauman, Special Secretary Health Dawood Bareach, Commissioner Jawad Rafique, Information and Culture Additional Secretary Tahir Raza, Health Director General Dr Nisar Cheema, Director General Public Relations Athar Ali Khan, Vector Born Diseases Additional Director General Dr Jaffar Ilyas and other concerned officers.

Training course: Postgraduate Medical Institute Principal Prof Dr Anjum Habib Vohra has said all nurses of the Nursing School of Lahore General Hospital have completed the dengue training course for sensitising the general public about safety measures and hygienic environment against dengue.

According to a handout issued here on Thursday, he said nurses had dual responsibilities regarding their struggle against dengue as they did not only take care of dengue patients but also keep their homes neat and clean.

He said the LGH would leave no stone unturned in curbing the dengue virus this year while doctors, nurses and all the paramedical staff were determined to fight the menace.
