LAHORE: Lawyers boycotted proceedings in Lahore’s subordinate courts on Friday on the call of the Punjab Bar Council over the killing of Additional District and Sessions Judge Zulfiqar H. Naqvi in Quetta, DawnNews reported.

The judge was going to his office from the Government Officers Residence Colony in Quetta at around 8am on Thursday when the gunmen waiting for him at a railway crossing in the Chalam housing society opened fire on his car. The judge’s security guard and driver had also died in the shooting.

Friday’s boycott came after Vice Chairman Punjab Bar Council Ghulam Abbas Nissoana appealed the province’s lawyers to ensure they registered their protest over the judge’s killing.

He said that the government had completely failed to provide security to judges and lawyers.

The boycott has been ongoing while the judges have been seated in their chambers to hear important cases.
