PIA plane strays off runway in Lahore; three injured

LAHORE: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) airplane strayed off the runway while landing in Lahore, injuring three people on board, DawnNews reported.
The PIA flight ATR-42 was traveling from Islamabad to Lahore when it strayed off the runway while it was attempting to land. Three people on board the aircraft were injured, including two passengers and a member of the flight crew. More than 30 passengers were traveling on the flight.
An image posted on social networking website Twitter purportedly showed the PIA aircraft that crash-landed. The person who posted the photo, @shammalqureshi, said in a post “It was very close to runway when it crashed, bounced back up and then crashed on the wing.then it just steered to the side.”
The runway at the Lahore airport was temporarily closed due to the crash landing.
Earlier Friday, another PIA flight made an emergency landing at the Quetta airport due to a technical fault.
According to PIA sources, the flight PK 240 had been travelling from Kuwait to Lahore when it developed the fault. The flight had 196 passengers on board. All passengers and crew members were evacuated from the aircraft safely.
The PIA management stated that if the repair work took longer than expected, the passengers would be taken to Lahore on another aircraft.
I am pretty sure that the pilot is a man of honor. We all must stop judging and wait for the investigation to be done. After investigation everything would be clear, Whether it is pilot’s fault or not will be determined. Let’s us all have patience and not try to criticize and comment on what we do not know about.
Lets not make an issue of the incident, I bet NO PILOT can risk his and passenger’s life on-board. It was due to some unavoidable circumstances that accident occurred.
We should salute the captain for saving all the souls on board….

An accident happened a few years ago in New York where pilot landed the plane into Hudson river and he instantly became an american hero for saving peoples lives. Pilot should be applauded and awarded for saving so many peoples lives. This happened purely because of weather so hope that people stop talking negative about the pilot. PIA may be a mismanaged airline but it has some of the best pilots in the world.

I dont understand why this corrupt GOVT of ZARDARI is looting money and letting the managment take money off the PIA. The planes are old and the GOVT need to give money to PIA TO BUY NEW PLANES AND STOP ALL THE OLD PLANES AS IT IS TAKING RISK, A BIG CRASH CAN HAPPEN. WAKE UP THE MD OF PIA WHO EVER YOU ARE.
The aircraft is only 5 years and nine months old, most operators here in Europe would love aircraft of this age throughout their fleets. The ATR 42-500 is a pretty fantastic aircraft but unless it has floats nothing could have landed on that runway with all that water. PIA is a pretty safe airline in all fairness, I would say the airports need updating which is no fault of the MD from PIA. just my two pence worth.
Makes me wonder why people travel by this degenerating and unsafe airline.

all of the people commentig on pia look like to be anti pakistanis moreover they havent even bothher to see the flight safety record of airlines allover the world,incidents are meant to happen the only aspect should be considered is that aircrafts landed safely
Samra, If you just click on the PIA hash tag, you will see that in the last 3 years, PIA, has had an alarming number of incidents. I know personally from a very reliable source within PIA, that the level of maintenance has become alarmingly poor, due to the culture of hiring based on cash incentives given to politicians, who engage in cronyism. The person also recommended not to fly PIA, while he himself is a PIA employee due to the high level of uncertainty and risk involved. Its better to recognize a problem and fix it, rather than suffering a calamity by denying it exists in the first place.
Saad but if the same incident happens with Emirates or any other airline which in your eyes is totally good thn would you be saying the same corruption thing or would you put the blame on something else ??

The plane that had problems in Newyork right after the take off and pilot landed it in water was appreciated by the people where as here people just like criticizing not appreciating ! Had the same incident happened in Pakistan, people would be blaming the pilot for doing something to the engine of the aircraft !

PIA airlines are not managed securely or upgraded. Most of the PIA planes have old engines and old pilots. PIA future is down to the failure of corruption by crooks wearing suits and ties. I bet PIA director travels on Emrites or Etihad because he’s afraid of his own plane (PIA).
Also most Pakistani Politician have British Passports because they don’t care for the future of Pakistan but fill their pockets with haram and enjoy retirement in Europe.
The people of Pakistan should start to act fast for the cause and future of all children of Pakistan before taste of corruption falls into their hearts and mind.
Seems like the pilot stalled the airplane while landing. Hopefully there will be a fair investigation

hey I almost died too. It was an ATR. We were going to Islamabad via Lahore from Rahim Yar Khan. One of the propellers just stopped right after the take off. It was not working when the plane was going to the runway. But then it started and once the plane was airborne, it stopped again. Thank God, the pilot brought the plane down safely.
That was the last time I flew with PIA. I’d rather travel on a donkey cart then on a PIA plane again.

It seems PIA is no more a safe airline. Everything related to Pakistan is failing. When will the people of Pakistan will wake up and do something about their government? It is already late.

The time, funds, energy and attention of the government is consumed by fighting domestic issues (terrorism, sectarianism persecution of Pakistani Christians etc) therefore these are natural consequences for such a nation. The maulvis have brought Pakistan to the brink of self destruction.
I think now it would be better if the handover the control of PIA planes to God.
