HYDERABAD, Aug 31: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) has appealed to the Sindh government to take notice of the fact that despite availability of water in all three barrages of the province, irrigation water is not being released in canals.

The SCA, which met here on Friday under Dr Nadeem Qamar, called for allocating special funds for rehabilitation of irrigation system.

Agriculture and irrigation sectors were backbones of Sindh which required serious attention, it was observed.

The meeting stated that abklani season was going to be completed but tail-end growers were still protesting against lack of irrigation water.

The present situation was the result of government’s failure to de-silt the canals over the last several years.—Staff Correspondent
