HYDERABAD, Aug 31: The Jafria Alliance “is considering launching a campaign against the ‘independent’ Supreme Court and the incompetent government”, its chief Allama Abbas Kumaili said on Friday.

The statement came one day after the target killing of Zulfiqar Naqvi, an additional district and sessions judge, in Quetta.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here, the Allama said the apex court wasted no time in taking suo motu notice when a woman candidate slapped a presiding officer, but took no action to stop target killings of Shias.

“Target killers first eliminated doctors and engineers. Now they are slaying judges, but the Supreme Court is nowhere to be seen,” Allama Kumaili said.

“Balochistan is the home province of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry where a sessions judge, his driver and guard have fallen prey to target killing. Why is the CJ ignoring such incidents? Doesn’t he see bodies of the Shia?” the Jafria Alliance chief said.

He accused the judiciary of letting off Shias’ killers instead of punishing them. “The court has disappointed us. Not a single accused has been punished,” Abbas Kumaili added.

He said incidents of target killings had risen in Gilgit-Baltistan since it became a province. “Faithful espousing various sects live side by side in India, but no sectarian violence takes place there.

“Mosques are not locked up there and people of all sects live in peace while mosques issue edicts against Muslims in Pakistan,” he said.

He urged the Saudi government to release all those Pakistanis who had been put behind bars on charges of theft.

Allama Baqir Zaidi, Qasim Hussain Jafferi and Syed Shair Ali Shah Kazmi were also present at the press conference.
