KARACHI: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik urged the Afghan government on Saturday to play its role to stop terrorists from coming to Pakistan.

While speaking to journalists after offering his condolences with senior journalist Riffat Saeed over the death of his mother at his residence, the Interior Minister said the forces who want to destabilise Pakistan and fail its government would never be able to succeed in their designs.

He said terrorists have again started terrorist activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Quetta, Karachi and several other cities after their failure on Eid-ul-Fitr. He added that the terrorists would never succeed in their designs.

Malik said government is working to protect life and property of the masses. He said all the political forces and people would have to make joint efforts to fight terrorism.

He further  said attempts are being made to instigate sectarian violence by killing innocent people and those forces which want to destabilise the country are behind it.

Malik said Taliban come into Pakistan from Afghanistan, and urged Afghan President Hamid Karzai to take effective steps to stop terrorists crossing into Pakistan.

The Interior Minister said the alliance of the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement is necessary for maintaining peace in Karachi.

He said Taliban can carry out any big terrorist activity in Islamabad, Quetta, Karachi or Multan.

He said Taliban could also occupy the offices of certain political parties in Karachi, but they would not succeed in it.
