LAHORE, Sept 2: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that as a result of effective steps taken by the government and adoption of preventive measures by the people, the threat of dengue has been minimised compared to previous years.

The chief minister was talking to media after participating in a walk at Centre Point in Gulberg and distributing awareness pamphlets among motorists in connection with Anti-dengue Day on Sunday.

“There is no need to worry, as anti-dengue campaign will be accelerated further with the cooperation and participation of the people,” he said.

Regarding spread of dengue virus in Karachi, Shahbaz Sharif said that he had assured all possible cooperation to the Sindh chief minister in combating the menace.

“Not only a letter has been written to the Sindh chief minister but I have talked to Syed Qaim Ali Shah by telephone and offered him that the doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and experts of Punjab are ready to assist their Sindhi brethren. Syed Qaim Ali Shah is like my elder brother and whenever he would order, experts and medical teams from Punjab would start helping their brethren in Karachi,” said Shahbaz Sharif.

Dengue virus, he said, has been controlled substantially.
