THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Fear of retirement’ (Aug 27) by Lt-Cdr (Rtd) Riaz Akbar. I strongly oppose the idea of offering the services of retired professionals to any institute of either the private or public sector unless it is needed direly because of the following reasons.
First, according to the latest research senses and intellectual capability of any normal human being deteriorates gradually after crossing the red line of 60 years.
It means after retirement one becomes no more able to serve any sector smoothly and beneficially.
Second, Pakistan is a rich but poorly managed country, having 63 per cent of youths in its total population.
Unemployment is victimising our youths and causing depression and despair.
If our respectable senior citizens do not vacate their existing posts or get another post after retirement, how our zealous youths with innovative ideas will replace them and get their due share.
No doubt, respect and care is the right of our senior citizens but it should be taken in a way that our youths do not feel dejected.
