PPP not to ally with ANP
PESHAWAR, Sept 4: PPP, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finance secretary Haji Mohammad Sharif has said his party will not make alliance with ANP as the workers opposed such a move.
He said in case of any pre-poll alliance with ANP the ultimate sufferer would be the PPP, adding all decisions in this regard would be taken in accordance with the suggestions of the workers.
While talking to this correspondent on Tuesday, he said PPP was basically a party of the poor people and thus it had roots in the masses. He claimed the government had done a lot for the public and supported the people irrespective of their political affiliations.
Appreciating the steps taken by the provincial president of the party Senator Sardar Ali Khan for strengthening the party, he said efforts were made to bring all the dispersed workers back into party fold. —Bureau Report
Heavy rain lashes Lakki city
LAKKI MARWAT, Sept 4: Torrential rains lashed Lakki city and several parts of the district on Tuesday morning as floodwater damaged several houses.
The cloudburst inundated parts of urban locality, turning roads and streets into pools. Heaps of garbage scattered in the entire urban area started excreting stench causing nuisance for people. Rainwater also opened clogged sewerage lines.
The weather became pleasant after rain and youngsters came out of their houses to play in rainwater. Students and government employees faced troubles reaching schools and offices.
Heavy rains also caused flood in Graban nullah near Lakki city posing serious threat to nearby houses of Haqdadabad locality. The flooding of other rainy water courses also disconnected traffic between urban and rural localities.
According to some reports, heavy rain also damaged various houses in several localities, but no loss of human life was reported.—Correspondent
Prisoners on strike
PESHAWAR, Sept 4: World Prisoners Relief Commission chairman Javaid Ibrahim Paracha has claimed two prisoners in Miramshah and Hangu jails have started hunger strike and were about to collapse due to starvation.
“I am going to disclose important information about the prisoners at a press conference today (Wednesday) at Peshawar Press Club,” Mr Paracha said in a press release issued here on Tuesday. He said families of the missing persons of Azad Kashmir, Lahore, Khairabad and Nowshera had approached him in Kohat and they would accompany him in the press conference.
He said the prisoner Mohammad Akhtar had started hunger strike in Miramshah jail while Shezad in Hangu, adding both of them were innocent. He said the relevant authorities were blatantly violating order of the Peshawar High Court by keeping the innocent people in prisons. —Bureau Report
Entry test held
PESHAWAR, Sept 4: First entry test for taking admission to the Iqra National University was held here on Tuesday.
According to a press release, a large number of students appeared in the entry test. Date for the second entry test would be announced soon. More students have shown interest in taking admission to management sciences, computer sciences, civil and electrical engineering and fashion designing.
Result of the first entry test would be displayed on the notice board of the university. —Bureau Report
Gas supply project
PESHAWAR, Sept 4: Federal Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan on Tuesday inaugurated a gas supply project in Regai village. Speaking at public gathering on the occasion he said that development work would be continued uninterrupted throughout the country.
He said that the PPP-led government was committed to providing all basic facilities, including drinking water, electricity, gas, communication system, education and health facilities to people.
He said that despite challenges like terrorism, economic recession and others, the government was taking solid steps for the welfare of masses and prosperity of the country. —APP
Road safety education
PESHAWAR, Sept 4: A road safety seminar was organised on Tuesday on the directives of Inspector General of National Highways and Motorway Police Zaffar Abbas Lak.
The sector commander M-I provided education on rules and regulations, accident causes, tyres conditions, overloading, over-speeding, dozing at wheel, road structure, vehicle maintenance, pick and drop and all other relevant issues.
The sector commander said without providing education ‘we cannot achieve our goal, and make our roads free of accident’, saying the seminar would be a great help in this regard. He said road safety education to the commuters should be continuing so that free flow of traffic could be ensured on highways and motorways.
He also requested the drivers that they should check the conditions of tyres before start of journey and do the tyres alignments and balancing at due time. He stated tyres tread should not be less than prescribed limit.—APP
Uplift projects discussed
PESHAWAR, Sept 4: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Tuesday met with political and public figures of the province and discussed pace of work on ongoing developmental projects.
Special advisor to CM Syed Masoom Bacha and provincial general secretary of ANP Arbab Mohammad Tahir were also present.
Those who called on the chief minister included former Nowshera nazim Daud Khattak, former provincial minister Mohammad Yusuf Khan Tarind, MPAs Engr Sajjadullah Khan, Taj Mohammad Khan Tarind, Dr Zakir Khan, Adnan Wazir and Fazle Shakoor Khan.
The chief minister said process of development was the accomplishment of elected government and it would bring a positive and pleasant change in lifestyles of the people. He also thanked MPAs for their cooperation and support during last four and half years in this regard.
