KHAR, Sept 6: The non-governmental organisations (NGOs) should come forward to provide humanitarian assistance to people of war-affected areas of Salarzai tehsil, as many tribesmen have been displaced due to fierce fighting between security forces and militants in areas along Afghan border, said Bajaur Agency political agent of Abdul Jabar Shah here the other day.

He was speaking at a meeting in Khar on Wednesday, which was attended by the administration officials, representative of Fata Disaster Management Authority, MNA Akhunzada Chattan and elders of the affected areas.

An official of the local administration briefed the participants about current situation in war-affected areas of Salarzai tehsil, saying that thousands of tribal people had been affected by the ongoing fighting.

Speaking at the meeting, the political agent said that the administration was deeply concerned about the worsening law and order situation and growing miseries being faced by tribal people due to the conflict. He said that the administration was using all means to bring normalcy to the area, but it would take time.

“The administration is aware of the problems and difficulties of the tribesmen,” he said, adding efforts would be made to solve problems of the people.

Mr Shah also called upon the NGOs to come forward to help the affected families at this critical juncture. The meeting decided that the process of registration of internally displaced persons and food distribution among the affected people would start soon. He said that several food distribution points and registration centres would be set up in different areas of Salarzai region.

The meeting decided that officials of political administration, FDMA and representatives of different political parties would take part in the rehabilitation process. It also decided to set up an IDP camp in Khar to provide food, shelter and other facilities to the displaced families.
