PESHAWAR: Police foiled an attempt of sabotage and recovered over 100 kilogrammes of explosives, including bombs, on Bara Road near Shaikhan village in the suburbs of Peshawar here on Thursday.

According to police, following a tip-off about shifting of explosives from tribal area to Peshawar cantonment, they established checkpoints at different places and noticed three suspected men — two riding a motorcycle and one pushing a loaded handcart near Shaikhan village.

“As the police signalled them to stop they tried to escape and started firing on them,” a police spokesman claimed, adding that in retaliation the cart pusher was killed and the two motorcyclists sustained injuries, but escaped.

He said that the explosives were loaded on a cart and the two suspects on motorcycles were giving it cover. The official said that bombs were recovered in ready position, which were later defused by personnel of bomb disposal unit.

The spokesman said that the explosives weighed 110 kilogrammes, while a remote control device and pistol had also been recovered from the deceased.

SP (rural) Khurshid Khan said that investigation was underway and soon identity of the deceased would be established. He said that the case had been registered in Badbher police station.—Bureau Report
