KABUL, Sept 7: The Afghan government said on Friday it would fully support a US decision to blacklist the Haqqani network as a terrorist group.
The Haqqani network has been blamed for some of the worst attacks in the last 10 years of war in Afghanistan, such as a June assault on a lakeside hotel that killed 18 people and a 2011 siege on the US embassy in Kabul.
“It will be a big move in destroying terrorists and their supporters, because the Haqqani network is the most dangerous terrorist group,” Afghan interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi told AFP.
He predicted that a terrorist designation would “dismantle” the Haqqani faction and deal a major blow to its allies in the Taliban.—AFP
