Six killed on road

CHAKWAL, Sept 8: Six persons, including two women, were killed in road accidents, police said on Saturday.

In the first accident on Chakwal-Mandra Road, a car hit a trailer coming from the opposite direction near Chak Norang village. As a result, all the four persons, including two women, travelling in the car, were killed.

Police said Ansar Kaleem, 25, a resident of Tatral village, Mohammad Faheem, 20, of Janga village, Shagufta Noreen and Faiza Basheer, both in their earlier twenties and cousins, were going to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) to inquire after a patient. The driver of the trailer fled from the scene leaving his vehicle behind.

Three cousins, Mohammad Arsalan, Zainul Abdeen and Mohammad Wasif, were going to their village Bikhari Kalan on a motorbike when they rammed into a trolley parked on the road near their village Friday night. Resultantly, Zainul Abdeen and Mohammad Arsalan died on the spot while Mohammad Wasif was injured. — Correspondent

3 die in different incidents

TAXILA, Sept 8: Three persons were killed in three different incidents in Wah Cantt and Taxila Police stations, respectively. In the first incident, a man was shot dead over an old enmity in Jameelabad locality in limits of Taxila Police station on Saturday.

Police sources said that Irfanullah was shot dead by two unknown assailants, when he was going home in Jameelabad locality and fled away from the scene successfully.

The reason behind the murder is stated to be old enmity. In a second incident a man was crushed to death by a speedy truck in Nawababad locality in limits of Wah Cantt Police station. Police sources said that Mohammad Javaid was crossing GT road near Nawababad when a speedy truck (bearing number LES- 6973) recklessly driven by an unknown driver knocked him down.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. The driver of the truck managed to flee from the scene successfully. While in a third incident, a body of an unidentified aged man found from a deserted place, near Bhattar Mor area in limits of Wah police station.

Police sources said that a passerby spotted a body of an old aged man. On getting information, a police party reached the spot and shifted the body to THQ hospital Taxila for autopsy. Later, the body was handed over to Edhi foundation for burial. — Correspondent

Media workers get registries

ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: Another batch of 165 applicants was awarded registries of their plots at Media City, Kirpa Road, here on Saturday.

This brings the total number of media workers to have been given registries to 205.

All applicants who have made complete payments have been awarded their registries, leaders of Media Workers Organisation (MWO) told participants of a ceremony held in this regard.

Out of 1,200 MWO members around 650 had applied for plots in Media City. Registries would be given to the remaining applicants after they make complete payment.

The chief guest on the occasion, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, lauded the role of MWO for its welfare activities. — A Reporter

Jewellery shop looted

RAWALPINDI, Sept 8: Robbers looted 4.5 kg gold from a jewellery shop at Benazir Bhutto Road in the limits of New Town police early Saturday.

Police said two watchmen deputed at the entrance of the shopping mall told them that five to six robbers riding a vehicle arrived at the Aashiyana Center at 1:30am and asked them to open the gate impersonating themselves as government officials.They told the watchmen that they would note down their names and other data as a security measure. When the watchmen opened the gate, the intruders looted the jewellery at gunpoint from the shop.

On the complaint of Naveed Ahmed, the owner of the jewellery shop, police reached the scene and collected evidence and recorded the statements of the watchmen.

Later, traders staged a protest demonstration and closed their shops. They also chanted slogans against the police.

New Town police station house officer Rafaqat Hussain said teams had been constituted to hunt down the robbers. He said a case has also been registered. — A Reporter

Peace rally ends

ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: A train rally, which started from Karachi, formally ended outside the parliament house here on Saturday.

Participants of the Mohabat-i-Sindh rally, who had reached Rawalpindi on September 7, gathered outside the National Press Club to show solidarity with the people of Sindh and later marched towards the parliament house building. President of Awami Tehrik Ayaz Latif Palijo led the rally. Civil society leaders and a large number of people belonging to Sindh were also present.

Speaking to participants, Mr Palijo said his party would not allow division of Sindh. He said the ordinance regarding local bodies’ election was not acceptable to the genuine Sindhis. He also announced his party’s decision to observe a strike  against the ordinance on September 13, 22 and 24. — A Reporter
