SINDH is the only province in Pakistan where there is no consumer protection law or consumer courts, due to which markets are flooded with counterfeit, look-alike, substandard and adulterated medicines, food and beverages.

The consumer protection law was promulgated in the form of an ordinance in 2004 and was signed by the sitting governor four times, but has always lapsed as it has never been presented in the Sindh Assembly for ratification. All other provinces have introduced the consumer protection law and established consumer courts, so why not Sindh? The Sindh government claims that it represents the common man, why is it then not looking after the interests of the hapless consumers?

Why is there no political will to introduce the consumer protection law for so many years? Why is the Sindh government not ensuring that the law is tabled in the Sindh Assembly?  Are consumers of Sindh different from other provinces? Where should they go for justice?

Depriving consumers of their fundamental rights and denying them a safe and healthy life is truly unacceptable.

One can only pray and hope that the Sindh government will wake up and submit the consumer protection law in the Sindh Assembly without any further delay so that consumers of this province are protected from exploitation.
