SPLGO challenged in SC

Published September 8, 2012

KARACHI, Sept 8: The Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO), 2012, promulgated by the Sindh governor in the early hours of Friday, was challenged in the Supreme Court on Saturday.

In his petition filed in the SC Karachi registry, Syed Iqbal Kazmi impleaded the principal secretaries of the Sindh governor and the chief minister, the chief secretary, the secretaries of the Sindh law and parliamentary affairs department and the local government department as respondents.

The petitioner contended that the newly promulgated ordinance was aimed at dividing the province on an ethnic basis. He added that the law was never tabled in the assembly.—PPI
